Folk costumes from Alentejo, Portugal

A traditional costume from Alentejo is the Shepherd’s costume: composed of trousers, shirt, cloak, safões and pelico because of the cold.
Capote – is a piece of shelter. The arms maintain freedom of movement, the body never feels tight and the cold does not enter. It has a certain weight and covering the whole body.
Chaps – they are pants that overlap those of cloth, which are worn tight. They are made of lamb skin, comfortable, durable and easy to obtain. In the summer months these are replaced by other white canvas.
Pelico – it is a kind of coat with the wide and long, sleeveless flaps, with shoulders, protecting the back.
